Birthday Party In Palm Beach, Florida

How do you take a ballroom which seats 600, that people have seen a million times at fundraisers and convert it into something completely different that is cozy for 170 guests? The theme was chinoiserie. How about constructing a room within a room... That was Van Wyck and Van Wyck's design concept. Luckily we had many days for set up. Everything was custom made and hand painted, including the fabric for the tent, valances, stenciled sisal carpet, dance floor, and stage backdrop. The shell and coral chandelier was handmade. All the tables had an assortment of Asian figurines.

The evening started with cocktails and was followed by a seated dinner dance. The birthday girl loves opera and was surprised by a special performance from a singer from the Metropolitan Opera. Dessert was followed by another surprise performance by Joan Rivers and a fabulous birthday cake presentation -- see photos of the custom tulipiere cake.

We hope you enjoy all the set up shots that tell the story of the process until we reached our final vision.
